Area Info

The hotel is located on Presidente Córdova street, right in the heart of the historic center. Technically, this places it within a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The location is ideal for first-time visitors to the city. Less than a five-minute walk will take you to either the New Cathedral of Cuenca with its famous blue domes or to the Flower Market (Plaza de las Flores), ranked among the best outdoor flower markets in the world. This area bustles with activity during daylight hours and provides an excellent spot from which to observe local life while blending anonymously into a mixed crowd of locals, other tourists, and vendors.

There are a few places around the hotel offering food. More specifically, there is an "almuerzo" place where lunch costs three dollars and high-end international restaurants along Calle Larga. The bank of the river Tomebamba with its grass and hanging houses is only some meters downhill. That means you're equally likely to get lost exploring all the architectural history in city buildings or have a quiet walk by the river; both ways never demand a taxi ride.

The area is generally safe because, during the day, it is filled with tourist police who patrol their beats near government buildings. But as a commercial hub, after 9:00 PM when all businesses have closed for the night, there are hardly any people left on its streets. It’s perfectly safe to walk home after having dinner but always better not to take that short cut through dark empty alleyways late at night; stay on main lit streets.
